The sign of four is an amazing book by sir Aurther Conan Doyle.

The case of Mary Morstan in a locked room mystery, a mystery of a hidden treasure and a lots of more mysteries. Who is Mary Morstan, and what is the sign of four???

The Sign of Four Summary

It was early in the morning, Sherlock Holmes and dr. Watson sat on their chair with their pipes and cup of black coffee. It had been a couple of days since they’ ve got a case . Both were worried and having thoughts about a case when suddenly

ring…..

The door bell rings. As usual they thought that it was the maid who had come but wait , its someone else,  looks like mrs. Cecil Forrester’s friend. It was Mary Morstan who have come for an issue . Mrs Mary  had been receiving letters from someone , but neither the name was  written nor any clue was given. All day, she got these letters but once she got a letter which mentioned an address. She was not sure what to  do  and hence visited Holmes.

Holmes read those letters and all of them had gone to the address mentioned. There stood a man pointing at a cab for them to get in. The cab took them to a place unknown. There stood a man, blowing his pipe.

Who is he???

Thaddeus Sholto

They didn’t even know who he was. He was the son of major Sholto a friend of mr. Morstan

His father and mr. Morstan had kept a treasure .

But major Sholto had an enemy who had a wooden leg.

Thadeous explained that, before his father died he was about say the place where the treasure was kept but before he could say a wooden legged man appeared and Sholto got an attack. then they knew about the treasure which was kept in a house in which Barthemelow Sholto, brother of Thadeous Sholto was locked in a room. Before Holmes could enter Barthemelow was shot dead and the treasure gone. There was no sign of any culprit except for the footsteps of the wooden legged man. There was no sign of the escape of the culprits . There only was a small opening but couldn’t be shut from outside and the windows could only be shut from inside. After a lot of detection and a lot of investigation they found only one information,

Jonathan Small

This man is the one who had an eye on the treasure and maybe even have it!!!!!

Soon the investigations had ended and gave a bit of information,

the thieves had taken a boat from the Smiths called the AURORA.

The investigators had gone to the smiths when they found that Mr smith had sailed on that boat and had not returned back yet. It took them a lot of days to find the boat

A LOT OF DAYS!!!

Soon  then, Sherlock Holmes had found where they were heading to and chased them, from another boat. After a while, they caught Jonathan Small and asked the story behind.

Jonathan small a poor fellow who worked hard to earn money. He once was fooled by a group of people to swim in the Ganges. Due to this prank he had lost one of his legs and had to wear a wooden one. That time was the time of war . Jonathan Small after a lot of pleading was appointed to guard the Agra fort. He had to punjabs as assistants who sooner threatened Small to join their group to take away the treasure or to die early. Small had no other choice. He joined them. A  group of four

THE SIGN OF FOUR

The key to the treasure was with a trusty employee of the king, the owner of the treasure. One of the members of Smalls group had followed this guy. They killed this employee and took the key. They had thought that it would be a problem to take it during a war hence kept it safely inside the Agra fort. The group was caught, three to be sentenced to death and Small left in jail. There were to majors, Sholto and Morstan who were ready to let small escape for some part of the treasure  but Sholto had betrayed them, he stole the treasure for himself.

This is the reason why Small went to the room and killed Barthemelow.

There was no sign of escape from the room because they were a group.

At last Small reveals that during the chase he had thrown the treasure in the water and Small was taken to prison.
