The story behind.
It is said that a rishi(sage) had two disciples. These disciples, once fetched water for the sage. Suddenly, a lizard jumps from it. Furiously, the sage cursed the two disciples and turned them into lizards. The only way of erasing their sin is to wait for the sun and the moon to visit the temple in Kanchipuram.

This myth is what they have made as a remembrance.
